Congratulations to David Deutsch, Gail Hough, Don Dowling and Rosie Segil, each a recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition.   The club is pleased to have these excellent people as active members and working with the club to raise funds for scholarship and/or leading community services involvement.   Each exemplifies the guiding principle of Rotary --- “Service above Self” -- the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  The Paul Harris Fellow is an honor established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.

Notable figures have been named as Paul Harris Fellows, including U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and Jonas Salk.

Finally, Bob Gravino, introduced the new member of the Paul Harris Society.  The Society recognizes Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who elect to contribute $1,000 or more each year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved global grants.   This years’ inductees were Dr. Keith Taylor, David Deutsch, and Arthur Schwartz, who are joining the current members, Julie Livingston and Alexander Falk.
